Information
1998.05.20 - First Model Release
It's 2nd Generation in YAMAHA BWS family, "BWS" means "Big
Wheel's", also the first scooter complete finished by YMRT
(YAMAHA Motor R&D Taiwan) in 1997. YAMAHA Japan started relocation
the R&D center and scooter production-lines to Taiwan in 1996,
currently all of new YAMAHA scooters are exported from Taiwan.
It's a really peppy model with 2-Stroke engine, Reed-Valves device
let you off the line faster, Air-Cooled system is easy on maintenance
and lower cost on parts, wide aggressive tires help you a lot on rough
road surface, front disc brake let you zigzag in the city without
worries, there is plenty of room for two on the comfortable seat &
a large lock-in storage compartment under the seat.
Wayne's Opinion
2005.01.31 - Vancouver, CANADA
The North America version combined some parts originally install on
BWS 100: Front Forks, and Aluminum Wheels, also changed head-lights
to brighter H4 12V35/35W bulbs by DOT requirements, we don't recommend
people change wires to make 2 bulbs light up at the same time, it
will swallow a lot of electricity from alternator. The 50cc engine
is slightly demanding because the frame and body were originally designed
for BWS 100, stock speed is *65km/hr
maximum (2005 model) on flat ground. The barycenter is higher than
other scooters because the frame design and wide aggressive tires,
so you will feel rough when leaning in the curves.
There are tons of aftermarket parts let you play with YAMAHA BWS.
Basic upgrades such as cylinder, transmission,
exhaust, carburetor, tire, plug, shock, light, and handle Bar; Also
Liquid-Cooled 70cc Cylinder Kit, High RPM / Light Weight Alternator,
KEIHIN PWK 28mm Carb + Manifold Kit, 12" Wheels + Low Profile
Racing Tires are all available; You can even swap the whole
engine to BWS 100cc and maximize it to 150cc with professional
processing, we mean it! BWS is the scooter with unlimited upgrade
ability! The average Retail Price for this scooter in North America
should be around USD $1,800 ~ $1,950 plus applicable taxes only.
